The parish registers included are the neat parchment versions of the registers, which were discovered only in 2006, hidden behind a wooden chest. A separate series of neat copies of the registers was recorded on parchment well into the second half of the 19th century, showing the pride taken by the church-wardens and parish clerks of Manchester in recording these record numbers of ceremonies. The neat registers chosen give full coverage for baptisms, marriages and burials between 1809 and 1821. Also included are two volumes of the Summary marriage register and the one extant example of a Banns objections register.By selecting from the extensive series of baptismal and other registers only those volumes which are contemporary with a unique item, such as Banns objections register, this group of documents offers a comprehensive synchronic perspective on the role of the Collegiate Church in recording data on population and personal status.
