Zululand
Zululand
Collection: South Africa in Records from Colonial Missionaries, 1819-1900 Volumes Zululand
These documents reveal the nature of the challenge facing missionaries wanting to convert native peoples in Zululand and Swaziland in particular. Distrusting chiefs and people who felt an attachment to their existing belief system presented a real challenge to the missionaries; the missionaries responded by using food as an incentive for people to engage with them.
